UK Ministry of Defence – Helping establish the foundations for improving long-term performance

The Specialist and Logistic Vehicles (SLV) project team for the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) is responsible for the procurement and in-service management of SLV equipment for the UK forces. Faced with increasing stakeholder pressure, the team needed to improve confidence in their management of equipment procurement and delivery.

The MOD asked PA to define and manage a programme to improve team performance. Using a bespoke assessment tool, the joint team identified key areas for improvement. This included: agreeing the team’s mission, vision, roles and responsibilities; improving output management, project management and cost control processes; and establishing a new contracting strategy, positioning the team to become a service ‘decider’ rather than ‘provider’.

The SLV team now has much greater control over the delivery of their programmes. These changes will significantly enhance the team’s performance in the longer term, improve stakeholder confidence and provide the capacity to continue to deliver outputs and maintain support to UK operations.
